Fiona Katharine WIDDOP (Fiona Katie to her friends) is a name synonymous with mastery of the harp. With over 35 years of experience as a professional harpist and musician she has captivated audiences across the UK and beyond with her unparalleled skill and passion for music. But Fiona Katie is much more than just a performer ;she is a creator ,an innovator, and a custodian of harp history.
A Unique Craftswoman and Collector
Not only does Fiona Katie excel in playing the harp, but she also crafts many of her own instruments , a rare and extraordinary talent. Her dedication to the art of harp-making is evident in her remarkable collection of harps - probably the largest private collection of harps in the United Kingdom with over 40 harps in her care , each instrument tells a story, showcasing her deep connection to this timeless instrument .
A Versatile Performer
Fiona Katies career spans a wide range of performances , from intimate concerts to prestigious events , She has performed at the Bradford Literature Festival, enchanting audiences with her ethereal sound and played at the Anne Lister Concert of remembrance and will be performing at the Anne Lister Birthday celebrations later in 2025. Anne Lister , ,whose life inspired Sally Wainwrights acclaimed TV mini series Gentleman Jack, remains a historic figure of immense significance to Halifax and Shibden Hall and Fiona Katies performances have beautifully honoured her legacy. These events exemplify Fiona Katies ability to bring historic moments to life through music. Her versatility extends beyond classical and traditional settings as Fiona Katie has jammed with rock legends such as Guns N Roses and even had the opportunity to perform and tour with Led Zeppelin demonstrating her dynamic range and her adaptability.
A Composer and Collaborator
Fiona Katie is not only a performer but also a prolific composer and has released many CD's of her own compositions . She has written and performed many original works, creating music that resonates deeply with her audiences . In addition to her own compositions , she frequently performs pieces written by her husband David Widdop showcasing their shared passion for music .
